Gov. Rick Perry said he is deploying up to 1,000 National Guard troops over the next month to the Texas-Mexico border to combat criminals that state leaders say are exploiting a surge of children and families entering the US illegally.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is immediately sending up to 1,000 National Guard troops to help secure the southern border in Operation Strong Safety.
“I will not stand idly by,” Perry said in Austin, Texas Monday. “The price of inaction is too high.” The price of the national guard to the state of Texas is said to be about $12 million per month.
Several protests have been organized near the border, with calls for immediate deportation. Counter protests have emphasized the humanitarian side of accepting migrants — claiming many of the migrants have fled violence at home.
