A Marine jet Harrier AV-8B crashed into a residential area in a Southern California desert community Wednesday, resulting in an explosion and the burning of two homes. The Marine pilot ejected safely. There are no immediate reports of any injuries on the ground.
The Harrier AV-8B went down at 4:20 p.m. PDT in Imperial (population 15,000) near the U.S.-Mexico border about 90 miles east of San Diego, California. Witnesses described an explosion and thick smoke rising from the crash.
