Arlington Heights Battalion Commander Terry Valentino (in command van) discusses attic fire operations with crews after they extinguished a fire in a house on North Kennicott Avenue in Arlington Heights.

Terry Valentino, formerly a Battalion Commander with Arlington Heights Fire Department, will be assuming the position of Deputy Chief of the Rolling Meadows Fire Department on June 2nd, 2014. According to Rolling Meadows Fire Scott Franzgrote, Chief Valentino brings a unique skill set to the position which includes experience as a Fire Paramedic with the City of Chicago; over 30 years of experience with the Arlington Heights Fire Department where he rose through the ranks to the positions of Battalion Commander and Division Commander of Training; Fire Prevention Bureau experience with the Village of Lombard; and most recently as the Training Coordinator for the Schaumburg Fire Department.

Chief Valentino earned an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science Technology from Oakton Community College, a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Management Degree from North Park University. Chief Valentino holds a variety of certifications from the Illinois Office of State Fire Marshal including Fire Cause and Origin Investigator I and II, Training Program Manager, Incident Safety Officer and Fire Officer III.

In addition, Chief Valentino’s skills and attributes include experience as an Incident Commander; training program development and implementation; budget development and management; strategic planning; policy development; lead instructor experience; implementing health and wellness initiatives; providing public education programs; emergency management coordination; emergency operations center maintenance; labor management relations experience including conflict resolution and negotiation in addressing grievances and collective bargaining issues from both sides of the table; and experience with hiring and promotional activities.

Chief Valentino’s in-depth understanding of the Arlington Heights and Schaumburg Fire Departments as well as his familiarity with the MABAS Division One organization and the Rolling Meadows Fire Department via years of responding with the Rolling Meadows Fire Department in accordance with long-standing auto aid agreement between Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights Fire Department are additional attributes that will benefit the Rolling Meadows Fire Department and the community.
