Chicagoland Severe Weather Possible: Partly Sunny High 83; Tonight Chance of Severe Storm With Hail, High Winds, Heavy Rain

Chicagoland weather radar [LIVE PRECIPITATION INDICATOR RADAR] is all clear in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Satellite images UNISYS Midwest IR SAT show thick clouds over southeast Minnesota, most of Wisconsin and northern Iowa at about 2:40 p.m.

Storm are expected to initiate by about 5:00 p.m. in southern Iowa, and head toward northern Illinois. Severe storms are possible after 5:00 p.m. with very large hail, strong damaging winds, and an elevated risk of a tornado. The greatest severe weather potential is between 7:00 p.m. and midnight.

About 1.0 inch of rain is forecast for tonight. Training of supercells is possible tonight, which would bring a series of thunderstorm cells with rain in excess of 1.5 inches.

THIS AFTERNOON A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 83 until about 5:00 p.m. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph diminishing about 4:00 p.m.

Tonight Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Some of the storms could be severe. Patchy fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60 at about 6:00 a.m. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
