Dear Paul B,
Don’t know if this “fits” your column or not, but here goes. I am dating a guy who leaves the worse tips, and sometimes doesn’t tip at all. He is brutal when it comes to waiters, and he just thinks that the food bills are too high anyway…I mentioned it once, and he said that “I could buy him dinner whenever I want, and tip as well….” He is otherwise a decent guy. He bought me flowers on my birthday and buys me gas sometimes when he’s in a good mood. I am 38, and I am in no position to be dumping him just because he stinks at tipping. Don’t tell me that he’s not worthy.

Dear Marissa,
Don’t ask me to lie to you, cause that’s “not a fit” either. I must warn you that peeps who hate to tip, and beat up on the food servers of the world are “not very nice peeps,” in general. They typically will be quite condescending to others as well, as they walk above the crowd of us lowly sub-humans. I am only forwarding information that may save you from a devastating conclusion, even though you are 38 (which is not even close to old..b.t.w.) You didn’t mention how long you and Mr. Thrifty have been dating. He buys you gas for your car? Well, it doesn’t require a gratuity, right? Nor does flowers….. Food servers, bartenders, car valets, hair dresses and the lot DO DESERVE a gratuity, unless they are rude and abusive. We are stuck with a system that requires patrons to tip these hard working folks. If the food is too expensive for Mr. Tightwad, then eat less, or order in. Please, Marissa, move forward slowly with this guy, he sounds like trouble to me, and you seem to be in a desperate mood. Personally, it is way better to be alone than with an abusive mate. I would keep your options open, agreed?
