The village of Arlington Heights Plan Commission gave the principals of 5th Avenue Sushi, 138 E. Rand Road, unanimous approval last week. Final approval could be as early as April 7, 2014.
The 2,100-square-foot restaurant with a total seating area of 902 square feet and room for 66 diners, would build out in the former Verizon store location next to Harvest Fresh at the southeast end of the Arlington Plaza strip mall.
The restaurant owners also plan to seek a liquor license and will appear before the village board’s committee of the whole for approval before alcohol sales are allowed.
The retail space has been empty since Verizon moved its location on Palatine Road between Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road.
Perhaps competitive for business, but helpful for customers, Rand Road business aggregation shows a tendency to provide a series of similar and specific shopping experiences for bedding and furniture, electronics, cell phones, grocers, and especially Asian cuisine. Nearby Asian cuisine establishments include China Buffet & Mongolian BBQ, Naomi Sushi (Prospect Heights/Arlington Heights border), Sun Shui, Wing Wah, and Yummy Gourmet.
