Actor Mickey Rooney, a Hollywood legend whose career spanned more than 80 years, has died.
Legendary Hollywood actor Mickey Rooney has died at 93, died Sunday. Although Rooney had been ill, his death is attributed to natural causes. Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith reported that Rooney was with his family when he died at his North Hollywood home. Police were called for a death report, but police say thre was nothing suspicious about his death.
He was one of the most famous child actors in entertainment history, playing the role of Andy Hardy in “The Hardy Boys” in 20 films. Rooney was the first teenager ever to be nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in “Strike Up the Band” in 1940.
Rooney also teamed up with Judy Garland for “Babes in Arms” which was a huge hit back in 1939. Rooney and Elizabeth Taylor starred in one of the biggest movies of the 40s — “National Velvet” — which launched Taylor’s career. Rooney also starred with Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” in 1961.
Rooney starred with Spencer Tracy, Edie Adams, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Dick Shawn, Peter Falk, Phil Silvers, Terry-Thomas, Jimmy Durante and Jonathan Winters in It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World in 1963.

In 1983, the Motion Picture Academy presented Rooney with an honorary Oscar for his “60 years of versatility in a variety of memorable film performances.”
Rooney was 5’2″and married eight times. He became a devoted Christian and member of the Church of Religious Science, and settled in suburban Thousand Oaks west of Los Angeles. In 2011, Rooney testified before Congress about abuse of the elderly, alleging that he was left powerless by a family member who took his money and mishandled his finances.
