Arlington Heights police responded about 1:43 PM Saturday to a report of a man with a gun in the block of 900 East Oakton Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report of a man with a rifle was chasing another man down the street. The disturbance stemmed from a dispute over damage to a bicycle. The owner of the bicycle arrived at a man’s residence on Oakton Street, he knocked on a window, and demanded compensation for damage to his bicycle. The bicycle owner threatened the resident conditionally upon failure to compensate him for damage done to the bicycle.
The victim walked away from the house when he saw the resident head for his telephone inside the house through the window. The resident was apparently calling 911. The offender then saw the resident with a rifle and ran toward Dryden and Oakton near St. Viator High School.
The resident chased the bicycle owner carrying a black powder rifle, which was loaded with powder, but did not have caps in the barrel. The resident was carrying the caps separately in his pocket.
Police arrived within minutes and arrested the resident, Brian Hilton, age 47, of the 900 block of East Oakton Street.
Hilton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possessing a firearm in public, and criminal damage to property for the alleged criminal damage to the victim’s bicycle.
Hilton’s court date is April 28, 2014.
