UPDATE: A person hit by a vehicle this morning — reported at Roselle Road and Granville Avenue — died from his injuries. The actual location of the crash was Roselle Road and Rosemont Avenue. Immediately after the crash, the victim was reported to be a child, but the cyclist was later reported to be a 40-year-old resident from Schaumburg.
Roselle police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:10 AM Tuesday to Roselle Road and Granville Avenue Roselle , IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a child bicyclist was hit by a large Mercedes work van. The bicyclist was reported to be trapped under the vehicle and unconscious.
The patient was reported extricated at 6:28 a.m.
Superior Air Med medical helicopter responded to the scene, but did not transport. The patient was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
Roselle Road was closed between the Elgin O’Hare Expressway and about Thorndale Avenue in Roselle. Police report that the driver of the van was eastbound on Rosement Avenue when he hit the bicyclist. Photos at the scene show that the van was possibly making a left turn to proceed northbound on Roselle Road from eastbound Rosemont Avenue. Roselle Road and Rosemont Avenue are a T-intersection at the location.
