Radar and satellite images are showing promise that clouds will break enough to show the Total Lunar Eclipse, which begins at 11:53 CDT and reaches totality at 2:06 a.m. Clouds are expected to start breaking at about 11:00 p.m., and will be at about 50 percent sky cover at 2:15 a.m. The “blood red” Moon is displayed at totality and during minutes before and after totality at 2:06 a.m.
Chicagoland weather radar [LIVE PRECIPITATION TYPE RADAR] shows the trailing edge of snow near a line from McHenry to Elgin to Orland Park at about 8:55 p.m.
Satellite images [UNISYS Midwest IR SAT] show the border of broken clouds and mostly cloudy conditions at the Mississippi River at 8:55 p.m. The cloud conditions border should reach the northwest suburbs by midnight with gradual clearing overnight.
