Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:36 AM Sunday to northbound Route 53 north of Palatine Road Palatine, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a vehicle was on fire after a crash.
While responding, firefighter/paramedics were updated that there was no fire, but multiple people were injured. The first crew on arrival reported a one-vehicle crash with multiple people standing outside the vehicle. The ambulance crew immediately requested a second ambulance respond to the scene.
One victim was trapped in the vehicle and one victim was on the ground.
Arlington Heights firefighters/paramedics responded with a second rescue ambulance.
Illinois State Police were delayed — possibly because of a fatal crash on the Edens Expressway near Touhy that occurred at about the same time as the Route 53 crash. Firefighters requested Palatine police respond to shut down northbound Route 53 at Palatine Road, an northbound Route 53 was shut down immediately.
Two victims had serious injuries and were transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. No other victims were transported to the hospital.
