Harvey police and Illinois State police were involved in a chase that was initiated by a Harvey police squad about 12:29 p.m. on northbound I-57. The vehicle being chased was a 2005 black Chrysler. The suspect in the Chrysler was believed to be heavily armed and dangerous, and wanted for homicide in Hampton, Georgia. The suspect is believed to have killed his wife with a hammer. The suspect is described as a male/black 6’0″165 LBS.
At about 12:36 p.m. the chase was northbound on the Dan Ryan at 87th Street. The chase was in the City of Chicago on the northbound Dan Ryan Expressway at about 80 mph with the vehicle accelerating. the chase based 71st at 100 mph at 12:37 p.m. and changed into the local lanes at about 12:38 p.m. The chase moved from lane one to lane three. It ended with a crash on northbound Lake Shore Drive just south of Belmont Avenue. The chase was reported at 96 mph while passing 53rd Street.
Eight hour police standoff with murder suspect in Chicago.
There crash approached I-55 at 12:41 p.m. and proceeded northbound on I-55 at that time. The chase moved to northbound Lake Shore Drive with Illinois State police as the lead car at about 12:43 p.m. Heavy traffic reported with a red light. The suspect tried to ram the Illinois State Police vehicle lead car.
The chase was at northbound LSD at Balbo about 12:46 p.m. at speeds of about 50+ mph. The chase proceeded over Wacker and over North Avenue at speeds of about 50+ mph.
The chase was northbound on LSD at Chicago Avenue at 12:46 p.m. at speeds at about 60 mph. The chase was proceeding at 80 mph. The suspect appeared to slowing, but rammed a car at about 12:48 p.m. at northbound LSD near North Avenue. soon after the offender rammed a vehicle, the trooper reported speeds of 96 mph, the trooper reported a car crash and that a Chicago Police officer was hit at about 12:50 p.m. It was unknown at that time if the police officer was inside or outside his vehicle. The final crash involving the offender’s vehicle occurred on northbound LSD just south of Fullerton Parkway. An ambulance was immediately requested to the scene at about 12:52 p.m.
Several Illinois State police and Chicago police officers surrounded the dark-colored vehicle. At least two Harvey police vehicles were on the scene. There was also a report of shots fired.
A crisis negotiator and SWAT are also on the scene. The scene was still active as of 1:19 p.m.

Lake Shore Drive southbound expressway traffic was diverted off of Lake Shore Drive on to Belmont or North Avenue due to police activity with SWAT on scene. Southbound traffic on Lake Shore Drive was diverted at Fullerton.
