No school, closed banks, closed government offices meant less traffic on the roads. More people hunkered down today and stayed off the roads. Illinois State Police troopers were still very busy; but if today had been a regular work day, the traffic situation would have been much worse.

More crashes and lane blockages seemed to be concentrated in southern Chicagoland. However Des Plaines firefighters responded to a car-Metra train crash at about 4:00 p.m. and West Chicago firefighters responded to a business jet incident at DuPage Airport. The jet slid off a taxiway during preparation for takeoff in white out conditions. Five passengers and two crew members were not injured.
