Lake County Sheriff’s police and Barrington firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:30 AM Wednesday to a report of a pedestrian hit by a snow plow in a parking lot at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 Route 22 Barrington, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that employees of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital were involved in the incident.
The victim was Diane Shogren, age 51, of Ingleside, who was walking in to work as a nurse at the hospital. She was immediately transported by employees into the hospital’s Emergency Room, where she was pronounced dead.
A witness account reports that another nurse attempted to revive the nurse in the parking lot before paramedics arrived. Diane Shogren is reported to have parked her car and was walking to work, when she may have slipped on the ice and hit her head before she was hit by the snow plow.
The driver of the snow plow is also an employee of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
The snow plow vehicle, a red 2012 Ford F-450 truck had a snowplow attached and was backing up in a parking lot when the victim was hit. All required lights and the backup alarm were functioning and activated, according to police. Snow was falling at a fast rate with low visibility, and much of the area was snow-covered with new snow.
