Springfield, Mo., police have issued an AMBER ALERT for a 10-year-old girl, Hailey Owens, who was abducted from outside her home Tuesday afternoon.
UPDATE: A friend of the family of Hailey Owens released information about 6:30 a.m. that the body of Hailey Owens has been discovered. Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams would not confirm the information from the family friend or take any questions at a 6:30 a.m. press conference. Meanwhile reporter Brett Martin from OzarksFirst (OzarksFIRST.com) reported that suspect Craig Michael Wood was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Murder.
Springfield Police, acting on a tip, found the suspect’s vehicle at a house in the 1500 block of E. Stanford. Police found evidence of foul play on the property.
The Springfield, Missouri Police Department issued an AMBER ALERT for Hailey Owens, age 10, after she was abducted in front of her home at 3247 West Lombard Street just before 4:49 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Sunset on Tuesday was about 5:57 p.m.
Early reports are that the child started to walk away from the offender, but then the male offender had the girl walk back toward him. The offender then grabbed her and threw her in the passenger seat, and fled southbound on Golden Avenue after fleeing eastbound on Lombard Street. No known witnesses reported whether they saw the pickup truck (Gold Ford Ranger pickup truck, license 1YF 454) turn right or left on Grand Street.
Hailey Owens is described as a female/white 5’2″ 90 LBS. She has long brown hair, brown eyes and pierced ears. She was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and purple sandals.

An updated description of the suspect reported that he was a 45-50-year-old white male with gray hair and an unshaven face. While Springfield police have reported that the suspect had been “located” and presumably in custody, no identification of the suspect was given as of 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The AMBER ALERT had been extended to statewide alerts for both Oklahoma and Kansas on Tuesday night.
