Michael Sam’s agent tells Brooke Baldwin he doesn’t think coming out as gay will hurt his NFL draft chances.
Dear Paul B Readers,
BTW, I changed this sign on to “Readers” — simply because many of you may read my column regularly, but are NOT necessarily fans…Joking? You tell me….
I have been hearing, reading, contemplating, and deciding about this Michael Sam fellow. Should I write about him? If I choose to do so, what in the heck would I write? I have decided (is it too late for this now?) to write very little, if anything about this young man. You may be shocked when I say this, but “why did he have to come out and tell everyone that he is gay?” Would any man/woman/trans-gender be considered a hero for “coming out” with her/her/their sexual identity? I, for one, do not care whatsoever. Your sexual preferences are nobody’s business, and I mean that in all sincerity. It is not in the interest of the public to discuss or decide what is right or wrong concerning your sexual engagements. Mr. Sam is a football player, and, if I cared, it would be in reference to his tackling ability, and that is it, period!
Everyone seems obsessed with his courage to proclaim his gay lifestyle to the world. I believe that he is diverting attention from his vast football skills to his very personal and private life. Perhaps he is searching for an outlet, such as a talk show for his “career after football?” Anything is possible in this very, larger than life, story. He is just another football jock, who may not be so very proficient at his craft. I can already see Nike and Adidas lining up to sell his pink shoes, apparel, etc..Meanwhile, let’s judge him as a football player, because all this other “noise” is of no interest to me. How ’bout it….
