Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:17 AM Sunday to a report of an apartment fire at 1453 North Winslow Drive Palatine, IL. Police on the scene first reported fire and smoke showing. Firefighters first on the scene reported heavy fire and smoke showing from a first floor garden apartment in a two-story building.
Police reported possibly one resident was unaccounted for. Firefighters knocked the main fire with an exterior attack by about 8:25 a.m., and then immediately went inside for an interior attack and to search for victims. Primary search of the apartment did not find any victims.
Firefighters were checking for extension of the fire toward the roof and attack, and first look is apparently all clear — no extension to the unit above or to the attic.
The fire was essentially out by about 8:35 a.m. with crews working on a few hot spots in the initial apartment unit.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights and Long Grove assisted Palatine firefighters.
