School Closings Announced Due to Severe Cold Weather and Wind Chill Warning: Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Schaumburg, Mount Prospect, Chicago

Most school have announced closing this week. Monday’s low at 9:00 a.m. is forecast to be -7 degrees with a wind chill of -30 degrees. Wind gusts of 30 mph are forecast at that time.

Temperatures are forecast to continue to drop all day Monday and Monday night with the COLD OUTBREAK LOW on Tuesday morning at -21 degrees with a wind chill of -40 degrees from about 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures Sunday are forecast to begin to fall at about 4:00 p.m. The free fall is expected to continue all the way until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, except for a 1 degree rise at about 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday (High -6 degrees for O’Hare/High -7 degrees for Arlington Heights).

A WIND CHILL WARNING is in effect from Monday, January 27, 03:00 AM CST until Tuesday, January 29, 09:00 AM CST.

A WINTER WETHER ADVISORY in effect until Monday, January 27, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. for snow showers and blowing snow.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Due to severe weather conditions, all classes in District 214 will be cancelled on Monday, January 27 and Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

District 214 announced that Varsity sports and fine and performing arts that have a concert or sports contests this week may practice between 10 am and 1 pm on Monday at the discretion of the coach or faculty supervisor. Students who do not attend practice will not be penalized. Students and parents are advised to check their school’s website or call the school’s main office number after 12 noon Monday for information regarding athletic events and fine and performing arts practices on Tuesday.

District 25 will also be closed on Monday, January 27 and Tuesday, January 28. Schools will re-open on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

St Viator announced that school will be closed on Monday, January 27, 2014, and that all after school activities and sports are canceled.

Our Lady of the Wayside school has announced school will be closed Monday.

So far St James School, which usually coincides with District 25 protocol, has sent an e-mail to parents announcing that administrators are planning keep school open.

District 54 school, so far, has announced that school will be closed Monday 27, 2014. Tuesday morning is forecast to be colder than Monday, so it is likely that District 54 will close on Tuesday.

District 211 has announced school closings for Monday January 27, 2014. Practices for varsity teams are option, and may be held between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

River Trails District 26 has announced that schools will be closed on Monday, January 27th and Tuesday, January 28th due to the weather.

District 15 has announced that schools are closed Monday, Janurary 27, 2014.

Prospect Heights School District 23 schools will be closed on Monday, January 27th and Tuesday, January 28th due to the weather. All activities and the Extended Day Program are cancelled as well.

District 21 schools will be closed on Monday, January 27th and Tuesday, January 28th due to the extreme cold.

Aptakisic-Tripp School District 102 has announced school is closed for Monday, January 27, 2014.

District 59 has announced there will be no school on Monday, January 27 AND Tuesday, January 28, 2014.
