The official Chicago record at O’Hare International Airport was broken at 7:00 a.m. Monday with a reading of -15. The previous record was -14 in 1988 and 1894. The temperature at 8:00 a.m. then dropped to -16 degrees — the low for the day and the new record low for January 6.
The record low for January 7 is -16 degrees, which could be broken again sometime between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
