Lake County Sheriff’s police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:30 PM Sunday to a crash involving a Lake Villa Police Department squad car in the block of 37000 Fairfield Road Lake Villa, IL.. The Lake Villa officer driving the patrol squad was stopped northbound on Fairfield Rd north of Apache Trail when he was struck head on by a blue 2002 Ford Focus driven by Alex Tapia-Aguilar, 34, of the 1200 Block of Brentwood Dr in Round Lake. Tapia-Aguilar was traveling southbound Fairfield Rd in the northbound lane.
The Lake Villa officer was transported to Vista Health System in Lindenhurst for minor injuries and has been released. Tapia-Aguilar refused medical treatment at the scene.
Tapia-Aguilar was charged with 2 counts of driving under the influence, 2 counts of aggravated driving under the influence, no valid driver’s license, operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and criminal damage to state supported property.
Tapia-Aguilar’s jail bond was set at $50,000.00.
