Arlington International Racecourse found good news with the action taken today by the Illinois Senate and House of Representatives to pass legislation crucial to the survival of the Illinois Horse Racing industry. House Bill 11, which awaits the signature of Governor Pat Quinn, extends the ability of state residents to wager on horse races online via Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) through Jan. 31, 2017. The current legislation allowing ADW was scheduled to sunset on Jan. 31, 2014.
“We hope the bill is sent to the Governor quickly so that he can sign it and preserve the more than 35,000 jobs in the state dependent on a full horse racing schedule in Illinois,” said Arlington Park President Tony Petrillo. “With his signature many people can plan on going back to work knowing that there will be a full racing schedule in Illinois not only for 2014 but for the next several years as well.”
The passage of HB 11 came about when all factions of the Illinois Horse Racing industry were able to agree on language that provides the necessary funding for the Illinois Racing Board to regulate a full slate of horseracing in 2014.
“We can now focus on maintaining unity and working to rebuild racing and create new opportunities that will bring more jobs and revenue to the State for the long term,” Petrillo added.
