A billowing fire engulfed a three-story building near downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, sending 14 people to hospitals with injuries ranging from burns to trauma associated with falls.
Minneapolis firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, New Year’s Day morning 2014 to a mixed occupancy apartment building at 516 Cedar Avenue that was destroyed by an explosion and fire. At least 14 victims have been transported to area hospitals. Six people are in critical condition. Three people were missing, and may be inside the destroyed three-story apartment building.
A grocery store was located on the first floor of the building.
Minneapolis weather was extremely cold this morning with air temperature -5 degrees at 9:45 a.m. with wind chill of -19 degrees.
