Chicagoland weather radar [LIVE RADAR] shows that snow bands heading south are thinning out. Radar images indicate snow is east of Arlington Heights, east of St. Charles and east of Aurora at 12:17 PM. Forecast model indicates another 0.8 inch, but radar indicates snow is about done Arlington Heights.
The big weather story now is blowing and drifting snow and severe cold as clouds cear away to let heat escape overnight. Skies should be mostly clear by midnight while winds will blow from the northwest at about 15 MPH and down to 6 MPH at about 6:00 AM Friday. Gusty winds of up to 21 MPH will blow dry snow off rooftops onto pedestrians and across roadways.
The temperature is already dropping after a daylight high of 19 degrees at 9:51 AM (“After midnight high” was 21 degrees). It was 16 degrees at 11:51 AM.

Brutal COLD Coming …
Temperature warms up a little Friday, but another more prolonged cold blast will invade Sunday/Monday overnight. Monday/Tuesday overnight will be even colder with a low at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday at -18 degrees with a Wind Chill of -42 degrees (Wind Gusts 21 MPH).
