VIDEO of a Jeep SUV fire with a long way a fire hydrant in downtown Arlington Heights at Arlington Town Square on South Evergreen Avenue.
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:10 PM Sunday to a report of a car fire in the block of 42.08214,-87.981242 (0-99 South Evergreen Avenue Arlington Heights, IL). Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a black Jeep on fire, just east of Starbucks in the parking area. High winds blew smoke to the west and fanned the flames.
Arlington Heights firefighters from Tower 1 put water on the fire, but their tank didn’t hold enough water to extinguish the fire, and no hydrant was available nearby. The crew from Tower 1 called for Engine 2 to connect to a hydrant near California Pizza Kitchen on Evergreen Avenue, just north of Campbell Street. Tower 1’s crew had to wait a very short time after their water supply was empty, which gave the fire a little chance to flare up, but soon the water supplied from the hydrant and Engine 2 was applied to the fire.
The fire was in the engine compartment, but may have communicated through the floorboard to the interior. There was a lot of smoke coming out the broken windshield.
Two vehicles were parked adjacent to either side of the Jeep. The vehicles did not appear to have any significant damage.
