Chicagoland weather radar [LIVE RADAR] shows very small snow bands moving north to south — mostly over the lake. Light snow is forecast to start Christmas Eve at about 9:00 p.m. and last until 11:00 a.m. Christmas morning. Accumulation of about 2.5 inches is forecast for Arlington Heights. Another 0.4 inch of snow is forecast for Christmas between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Christmas afternoon and night.
Satellite images show clouds over northern Illinois and most of the upper Midwest. Clouds are expected to clear gradually to about 2:00 p.m. and then increase overnight.

Snow bands moving north to south in the area with accumulation expected to start after 3:00 p.m.
A high of only 15 degrees forecast for today with a Wind Chill high of only 5 degrees. Temperatures are expected to rise overnight with the snowfall, and an increase in wind gusts. Stouh winds of 11-17 MPH with gusts to 26 MPH area expected overnight Tuesday/Wednesday and through the entire day on Christmas Day Wednesday.
A warming trend is forecast through Saturday (High 35 degrees) with another cold blast arriving Monday.
