Portions of both the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 78 were shut down in snowy eastern Pennsylvania after chain-reaction pileups involved dozens of vehicles on slippery highways.
An I-78 turnpike crash occurred near Reading, Pa., at about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2013 in the westbound lanes, which were blocked with more than 30 vehicles. The crash was associated with a burst of snow that hit the Reading-Lancaster-York areas with 1 or 2 inches of snow over a three-hour period.
Ten people were transported to local hospitals.
