Bergen County Prospector John Molinelli reports on the finding of the shooter’s body in the Garden State Plaza Shopping Mall.
The body of the shooter at Garden State Plaza Shopping Mall in Paramus, New Jersey was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a remote area of the mall. The firing of shots began about 9:20 p.m. Monday.
Earlier law enforcement officers, including New Jersey State Police, raided a house in Teaneck shortly before 1 a.m. and media report the raid as possibly involving an arrest of the suspect[…]
Witness Leo Acevedo said the shooter was wearing a red and black motorcycle helmet with the visor up. Acevedo was able to see that the shooter was a white male, and said that he was wearing a full leather suit. Acevedo said he saw the shooter walk past the Apple Store, and that he didn’t try to shoot anyone, and that he wasn’t yelling.
Shoop was carrying a rifle modified to make it look like an AK-47.
The suspect is known to have abused drugs, and the motive is believed to have been a suicide. Bergen County Prospector John Molinelli said Richard Shoop had ample opportunity to kill people, but apparently chose not to kill anyone.
