Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:47 AM Thursday to a report of crash with injuries at Northwest Highway and Evergreen Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that one person was injured. The crash involved an small SUV and a small sedan.
Silver Jeep Liberty alone in an intersection at US 14 Northwest Highway and Evergreen Avenue had many bystanders believing that the crash was a hit-and-run crash, but it was not. The other crash vehicle was moved to the commuter lot.
No word on the extent of injuries at the scene, but the injuries appeared to be minor. All involved were walking around at the crash scene.
Several storeowners were startled by the loud crash. Several people at the scene thought the crash involved a hit-and-run, because only the SUV was seen in the intersection. The sedan was moved to a commuter parking lot north of the intersection.
Since police communications are now secret with military grade encrypted radios, there is no early alert for neighborhood watch groups or off-duty police officers to be on the lookout for fleeing hit-and-run drivers. The system makes it easier for unlicensed, and uninsured drivers to flee a scene without detection by aware witnesses in the immediate locale.
