Chicago area radar shows light thunderstorms passing east and diminishing through Lake County, Illinois and southeast McHenry County [LIVE RADAR]. Some precipitation is likely to affect Buffalo Grove, and spotty areas in northwest Cook County. A slightly greater chance of storm is likely after 12:30 p.m. Friday. Rainfall amount today is expected to be less than 0.15 inch. About 0.6 inch of rainfall amount is expected Saturday. Severe weather is possible today and more likely tomorrow with torrential downpours, wind gusts to 50 mph, small hail and cloud-to-ground lightning.

The Storm Prediction Center shows Iowa as the most likely area of severe weather and possibly a tornado today and tomorrow. Northern Illinois is included in the tornado risk area.

Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected again today, unless a cold front drops in earlier and further than expected. Otherwise a strong cold front is expected to pass through the area Saturday afternoon.
