Chicagoland radar shows small thunderstorm cells generating over Lake Michigan and heading northeast [LIVE RADAR]. The best chance for thunderstorms is between 4:00 p.m. and midnight. Rainfall amount is expected to be about 0.70 inch between this morning and 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
National Weather Service forecasters expect that individual storm cells have the best chance for severe weather. The storm cells that generate away from clusters or lines of storms are reported to have some chance for production of a tornado.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center places the tornado risk area in northern Illinois for about half of Lake County, far northwest Cook County and McHenry County, and westward, but not all the way to the Mississippi River. Most of central Wisconsin and southeast Wisconsin is also included in the risk area for a tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center includes the northwest suburbs and almost all of Chicagoland and northern Illinois and much of central Illinois and southern Wisconsin in an area at risk of hail.
According to satellite images, most of Illinois, eastern Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and Wisconsin are under clouds.
Low pressure is centered over eastern South Dakota and northern Nebraska. Tornadoes have already hit Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. A winter storm has also hit South Dakota and Wyoming.
The cold front will give us a cool Monday, but we’re expected to bounce back to the 70s by Thursday next week.
