The Arlington Heights village board on Tuesday night approved a land use variation that will allow Fitness 19, 1601 W. Campbell, to expand into an empty space next door to the gym in the Westgate Shopping Center. The empty space that will be added is not visible from the front of the strip mall. The additional space of 1,650 square feet is in the rear half of a neighoring storefront. The total of area of the new expanded fitness center will be 8,650 feet.
Fitness 19 will also add two parking spaces.
The expansion was unanimously approved by the board; however Trustee Thomas Glasgow had some reservations about having a large gym in the middle of a strip mall.
Fitness 19 has treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, selectorized progressive resistance and/or circuit weight training machines, and free weights. Hours of operation will remain the same.
Fitness 19 was founded in 2003 to bring to customers an extremely affordable, family-friendly facility that offers state-of-the-art cardio, strength, and free weight equipment, according to their website. Fitness 19 at the Westgate Shopping Center location opened in Spring 2010.
The Westgate Shopping Center is now 94 percent leased.
