CNN HLN interviews Jason Jacob Soliz-Amaya and his mother, Selina Soliz.

Jacob Soliz-Amaya was in his bed Saturday morning August 31, 2013 when his father left for work. Once his father was gone, Helen Marie Newsome allegedly jumped out of a closet where she had been hiding and attacked Jason in their home in Cheverly, Maryland in Prince George County.

Jason Jacob Soliz-Amaya used a head-butt and a karate chop to defend himself from his father’s ex-girlfriend, who waited in a closet for 10-12 hours for Jason to go to bed and his father to leave for work, before she attacked him. She hit Jason with a dumbbell and tried to smother him with a pillow. Jason received a serious laceration to the top of his head, but he was able to defend himself and escape from the female attacker. In the interview Jacob even spoke of using other compound karate moves on the woman.

Jason ran outside, and a neighbor called 911. Newsome fled the scene by jumping out of a second floor window. She was apprehended a short time later, and admitted to attacking Jason.

The ex-girlfriend — Helen Marie Newsome, age 26 — is charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to kill her ex’s son by smothering him with a pillow. She was held on $500,000 bond.
