VIDEO: Fire at Wheeling High School near the main entrance were a tar kettle and dumpster with roofing materials burned out of control until Wheeling firefighters quickly extinguished the fire Tuesday afternoon.
Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:18 PM Tuesday to an outdoor fire with exposure of the Wheeling High School building, 900 South Elmhurst Road, Wheeling, IL. Police discovered flames and workers trying to extinguish roofing materials and a tar pot on fire with a fire extinguisher at the front of Wheeling High School.
Police reported the fire near the main entrance might be spreading to the roof of the school.
First firefighters on the scene reported a tar kettle and a dumpster fully-involved with fire impinging on the school building. Firefighters immediately pulled a 2.5-inch line and put water on the school building to protect the school building. Two additional lines were then used to put water on the actual fire.
Firefighters reported the school building was all clear at about 4:43 p.m., and reported that it appeared everything was under control at about 4:46 p.m.
No injuries reported.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Long Grove and Prospect Heights assisted Wheeling firefighters.
