Kankakee Sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement officers responded to a riot after a fight broke out during a large gathering about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park in the 12000 to 12100 block of East Central Street in Pembroke, Illinois (Pembroke Township).
When it was all over shots were fired, two people suffered gunshot wounds, and one person was hit by a car, according to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s office.
The injured were taken to local hospitals. The Extent of the injuries and the medical conditions of victims are unknown at this time. Area law enforcement officers are investigating. Several persons of interest are being interviewed by investigators.
Police from Kankakee city, Bradley, Momence, and St. Anne were also on the scene.
The violence occurred on the same day that a march at The National Mall in Washington D.C. was commemorating the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr’s famous “I have a dream” speech.
