Lake Zurich firefighters responded about 4:30 a.m. to the 23700 block of South Lakewood Lane to a report of fire in a garage that destroyed the structure early Friday. Lake Zurich fire officials are calling the fire a “suspicious” fire.
The garage, which was filled with building materials, was on an uninhabited lot. The fire is “somewhat suspicious” because the building was unoccupied.
The fire department response was elevated to a second alarm at about 4:46 a.m. Friday. Several tanker trucks responded to the fire scene with a apparent lack of hydrants in the immediate neighborhood. The property is on the shore of Echo Lake.
The fire was struck out at about 5:50 a.m.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, Fox Lake, Fox River Grove, Lake Villa, Libertyville, Long Grove, Mount Prospect, Mundelein, Nunda Township, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Round Lake, Wauconda, and Wheeling assisted Lake Zurich firefighters.
