California teen Hannah Anderson makes her first public appearance since being rescued from her kidnapper.

No cameras were allowed inside the fundraiser. Hannah’s father, Brett Anderson, came outside to thank the media for their efforts in helping the case come to resolution.

On August 3, 2013 or August 4, 2013, in Boulevard, San Diego County, California, 16-year-old Hannah Anderson was allegedly abducted by 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio.

James DiMaggio had invited Christina Anderson and her children to his home at 2071 Ross Avenue in Boulevard, California to say goodbye because he was planning to move to Texas. The Anderson family stayed over at his home, but on August 4, a fire was reported at DiMaggio’s house. Firefighter found the bodies of Hannah Anderson’s mother, Christina, her 8-year-old brother Ethan and their family dog.

On August 8, 2013 Hannah Anderson was sighted in Cascade, Idaho by horseback riders, who had seen a news report mentioning her disappearance and DiMaggio’s status as a wanted man.

According to Hannah Anderson, DiMaggio threatened to kill her and anyone who tried to rescue her with his gun. On the same day, DiMaggio’s car, a blue Nissan Versa, was discovered near the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The car’s license plates had been removed and the vehicle had been hidden by brush. On August 10, police discovered DiMaggio’s campsite and an FBI tactical agent killed DiMaggio near Morehead Lake around 5 pm after a short exchange of gunfire. DiMaggio fired at least one shot at the officers, causing the officers to fire back and kill him. DiMaggio was shot at least five times, in his head, arms and upper torso. Hannah Anderson had no visible injuries, but was taken to a local hospital for crisis counseling.

Hannah Anderson’s friend, Marissa Chavez, talks about the abduction and suspect James DiMaggio, after hearing that a horseback rider that discovered the kidnapper and the victim, said that it did not appear that Hannah was held against her will.
