A Ball State University freshman will get a free semester of out-of-state tuition after making a half court basketball shot. Markus Burden, of Frankfort, Ill., made the shot Thursday night.
During Welcome Week Thursday night last week, Markus Burden, of Frankfort, Illinois made a half-court shot that meant free out-of-state tuition for a semester — a value of a about $11,084.
The successful basketball shot is the first time a student has actually scored and won free tuition for a semester in the last five years that the contest has been held during Welcome Week. Mascot Charlie Cardinal was there to celebrate at the school introduction pep rally at the public university.
Ball State University enrollment is about 21,053 students — over 16,000 undergraduate students and over 4,000 graduate students.
