Arlington Heights police received a report about 5:46 PM Saturday of a theft of motor vehicle parts in a parking lot at 3311 North Kennicott Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders stole an entire semi-trailer with 820 Hankook tires stored in the semitrailer while it was connected to a tractor truck in a parking lot. The offender(s) stole a white 2005 trailer great Dane trailer. The tractor was still parked on the lot. Wires were cut in the truck and the steering wheel of the truck was damaged.
The total value of the tires is estimated at $15,000. New semi-trailers usually cost upward from $35,000. Used trailers are usually upward from about $9,000.
Illinois State Police responded to a report of a stolen semi-trailer found empty on a remote highway over the weekend. It is unknown if this was the semi-trailer from Arlington Heights. No word if the trailer was equipped with a GPS locating device.
The crime is reported to have occurred between Friday July 12, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday July 13, 2013 at 5:45 p.m.
