The heaviest storms tonight might be out toward Rockford and western areas of northern Illinois. Thunderstorm lines area moving in a north-northeastern direction. The heaviest storms are near Quad Cities and just west of Peoria, heading toward Rockford and areas just west of Rockford. At about 6:14 p.m. a bowing radar echo thunderstorm line indicated very high winds headed for much of northern Illinois. This line of thunderstorms is probably at least three hours away from Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs.

Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs are in an area of 2%-5% chance of tornadoes (See US Map Tornado Outlook valid until 6 AM Friday May 31, 2013).

STRONG DAMAGING WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.
HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLY LEADING TO FLASH FLOODING.
HAIL TO ONE INCH.
ISOLATED TORNADOES.

AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS ALL OF NORTHEAST
ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THROUGH LATE THIS
AFTERNOON…WITH MORE WIDESPREAD THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE ONCE
AGAIN LATER THIS EVENING.

DISCUSSION:

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE AS LARGE SCALE FORCING
INCREASES FROM THE SOUTH THIS EVENING. ALTHOUGH THE STRONGEST
THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS…THE
THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL QUICKLY EXPAND ACROSS NORTHEAST
ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THIS EVENING. THUNDERSTORMS
ACROSS EASTERN IOWA WILL CONTINUE TO SHIFT EAST TOWARDS NORTHERN
ILLINOIS THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH NORTHWEST INDIANA
TONIGHT.

PORTIONS OF THE ILLINOIS AND VERMILION RIVERS WILL REMAIN IN
FLOOD.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

ADDITIONAL ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA
FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT…AND ACROSS MAINLY CENTRAL AND EASTERN
PARTS OF THE OUTLOOK AREA SATURDAY. SEVERE STORMS ARE POSSIBLE
ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA FRIDAY AND ACROSS THE EASTERN HALF OF THE
AREA SATURDAY.

HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE TO BE POSSIBLE FRIDAY THROUGH
SATURDAY POSSIBLY LEADING TO FLOODING.

PORTIONS OF THE ILLINOIS AND VERMILION RIVERS WILL REMAIN IN

WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.

* SEVERAL ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE
AREA THROUGH SATURDAY WITH THE MOST LIKELY PERIOD BEING
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. A VERY MOIST ATMOSPHERE WILL
ALLOW THESE STORMS TO DROP HEAVY RAIN OVER SHORT AMOUNTS OF
TIME IN SOME INSTANCES. WITH RECENT HEAVY RAINFALL SATURATING
THE SOIL IN MANY AREAS RUNOFF WILL QUICKLY OCCUR INCREASING
THE POTENTIAL FOR FLASH FLOODING AND CAUSING ADDITIONAL RISES
ON AREA RIVERS.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
