Frozen Blob Crystal Ice Attacks Homes on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota

Witness video captures a wave of ice blanketing backyards and threatening houses in the Mille Lacs Lake area of Minnesota.

High winds from a strong low pressure system and the almost ice covered lake caused what can only be called a Mini Glacier event on the south side of Mille Lacs Lake in the town of Onamia, Minnesota.

A fast-moving mini-glacier, moving at about one foot every 30 seconds, was one to three feet at the edge near the town houses to over 25 feet at the lake shore. Maintenance personal for Izatys Resort said that clean up could take all summer due to the ice moving massive lake side and under water boulders onto the shore.

Winds over 30 miles per hour pushed ice into townhomes at Izatys Resort.

Video aftermath showing wall caved in, grills pushed up against walls, rocks from the lake pushed up underneath the ice. A witness, Darla Johnson, reported all of this ice occurred in only seven minutes.

No disrespect meant to people who suffered property loss, but the spreading ice certainly reminds us of “The Blob” horror movies. The theatrical trailers for THE BLOB (1958) and its sequel SON OF BLOB (a.k.a. BEWARE! THE BLOB, 1972).
