Danny Sims, of the 2200 block of Nichols Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday in exchange for pleading guilty to sexually assaulting two girls over a period of about five years beginning when the girls were age 11 and 13.
Danny Sims originally faced 72 felony counts, including predatory criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, child pornography, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges in exchange for Sims’ guilty plea.
An investigation began in November 2011 when one of the minor victims reported to investigators that she had been sexually assaulted by Sims in Cook County from 2006 to 2011.
During the investigation, Sheriff’s Police detectives found more than 6 million images of his victims engaging in various sexual acts. Sims took photographs and video of the sex acts with the girls.
Cook County Judge Ellen Mandletort sentenced Danny Sims, 44, to 15 years in prison on one count of criminal sexual assault and 12 years on a second count of criminal sexual assault. Danny Sims was also sentenced to three years in prison on a sexual abuse charge. The sentences will be served consecutively, and upon his release, Sims must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
Sims received credit for the 522 days he has been in custody since his arrest in November 2011.
Sims is also facing a felony child molestation charge in Lake County, Indiana. Sims was previously released from prison after completing his May 25, 2005 sentences for convictions in Lake County, Indiana of battery and residential entry.
