Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect, and likely to be extended beyond 5:00 p.m. Be prepared for Severe Thunderstorm Warning which means dangerous lightning and high winds could be heading for specific areas.
The greatest chance for thunderstorms is between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, and between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
A total of about 3.20 inches of rain is expected from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until 7:00 a.m. Friday.
Radar shows storms moving rapidly from southwest to northeast with the strongest storms near the Quad Cities and heading toward Rockford at 9:30 a.m. A strong storm is also just entering southwest DuPage County at 9:30 a.m.
Lightning and thunder has been observed since about 9:15 a.m. near Arlington Heights.
