Arlington Heights Mayor-elect Thomas Hayes is safe — having completed the Boston Marathon before two explosions were detonated near the finish line at about 2:45 p.m. ET. Hayes contacted village officials from Boston’s Logan International Airport this afternoon while waiting for his flight home.
Hayes completed the race before the two explosions occurred near the finish line, and is expected to be heading home for the village board meeting tonight.

Last Fall the 56-year-old runner finished the Chicago Marathon with a time of 3:36:11. The explosions today at the Boston Marathon occurred approximately when runners with completion times of between 3:30 and 4:30 would be arriving by the finish line. A video shows a clock with race time at 4:09 when the first explosion occurred.
