Model for snow accumulation from 6:00 a.m. Tuesday March 5, 2013 thru 6:00 a.m. Wednesday March 6, 2013 (HPC Winter Weather Desk).
An experimental weather model (HPC Winter Weather Desk) has produced a guidance map that shows a 75 percent chance that Chicago, west suburbs, northwest suburbs and north suburbs will get hit with a snow accumulation of 4-6 inches by Wednesday morning. There’s a 50 percent confidence in the model of 6-8 inches. The greatest snowfall rate is expected to occur between 6 a.m. Tuesday and 5:00 p.m. Tuesday after about an inch of snow falling overnight Monday to Tuesday. Light snow is expected to start about noon on Monday with about one-half inch accumulated by 7:00 p.m. Monday. Air temperature is expected to be about 30-32°F for most of the snow period.

WILL HELP SURFACE LOW PRESSURE TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE PLAINS INTO
MONDAY AS IT MOVES SOUTHEASTWARD. SURFACE LOW PRESSURE WILL THEN
FOCUS ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY EARLY TUESDAY AND MOVE NORTHEASTWARD.
A BAND OF LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO NORTHERN ILLINOIS
DURING THE DAY MONDAY OUT AHEAD OF THE MAIN SYSTEM BRINGING
ACCUMULATION OF UP TO AROUND AN INCH. THE MAIN SYSTEM WILL THEN
SPREAD SNOW INTO NORTHERN ILLINOIS MONDAY EVENING AND EARLY MONDAY
NIGHT AND ACROSS NORTHWEST INDIANA INTO EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. SNOW
WILL THEN CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY TUESDAY BEFORE TAPERING
OFF TUESDAY EVENING. ADJUSTMENTS MAY STILL NEED TO BE MADE TO THE
TRACK OF THE SYSTEM AND THEREFORE THE LOCATION OF THE HEAVIEST
SNOWFALL BUT AT THIS POINT AREAS IN THE WATCH HAVE A STRONG
PROBABILITY OF ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL WHICH WILL LIKELY EXCEED 6
INCHES ACROSS AT LEAST SOME PORTION OF THE WATCH AREA. CHECK BACK
