The Village of Palatine’s Medical Reserve Corps (PMRC), was recently awarded a $4,000 grant from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) to enhance and support their ongoing program and team activities. This is the third consecutive year the PMRC has been awarded this grant.
The PMRC is a community-based, volunteer organization which brings together local health professionals and others with relevant health-related skills to volunteer in their community. While most of the PMRC’s projects focus on preparedness, they remain a valuable resource to supplement emergency medical personnel during natural, technological and manmade disasters or emergencies.
“Receiving these funds allows us to better prepare our volunteers and community in the event of an emergency requiring medical assistance,” said PMRC Leadership Chair Linda Trilling. “Our focus will continue to be on community resiliency and being good stewards of these much needed funds.”
Initiatives which the PMRC are involved in include; CPR/AED training, immunization assistance during epidemic outbreaks, assistance with community blood drives, support of fire department personnel during training and working fires, community outreach at special events and many more. Palatine’s team, one of approximately 875 Medical Reserve Corps teams in the country, currently has over fifty (50) members but is always seeking additional qualified volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Palatine’s EMA Coordinator, Tom Smith ([email protected]) for more information.
