Dramatic video out of eastern China shows a lamppost smashing the windshield of a bus filled with passengers. The driver, who suffered a damaged spleen in the accident, steered the bus to the roadside where he led passengers to safety.
A quick-thinking bus driver, Mao Zhihao, reacted fast when a light pole came crashing through the window of the bus he was driving. Mao is lucky to be alive and his passengers are lucky he reacted quickly — putting the bus in park while he was injured and encumbered by the pole.
A bus surveillance video shows, Mao was almost speared in the back on Monday when the bus he was driving in the eastern Chinese province of Zheijang was hit by a loose light pole at an accident scene. Several children sitting behind the bus driver were also almost hit by the light pole.
Mao was able to duck in time, bring the bus to a stop, and slide out from under the pole. He then helped his passengers get out of the bus safely.
Mao reportedly suffered a ruptured spleen. “I was pinned down by the lamppost and put the bus into gear instinctively,” he said.
