UPDATE: Police are NOT actively searching searching for a suspect related to this “vehicular hijacking” case as NO COMPLAINTS are going to be signed by the victim. Apparently no threat exist, and police at 9:00 a.m. are not responding to call reporting a possible sighting of the suspect. No word yet whether other circumstance surrounding the case were untrue or unfounded.
Schaumburg police responded about 3:55 AM Friday to a possible carjacking, after a woman was driven to her vehicle by taxi — leaving a bar in Chicago — and was attacked and driven to a location in Schaumburg. Schaumburg police and Hoffman Estates police became involved when Onstar tracked the car near Plum Grove Road and Higgins Road. Police then swarmed the area. The offender fled, just before police caught up with the victim inside her vehicle at 1191 Woodfield Road Schaumburg, IL. While on the scene with the victim, police learned that the victim reported an offender jumped in her SUV near Oak and LaSalle after she left a bar in the area. She had taken a cab to the location where her SUV was parked on a side street.
The victim reported that a male/black offender pushed the her in her car, tried to grab her purse, and beat her. He then apparently got in the car with her in it, and hijacked the car. The offender is reported to have hit the HOME button on Onstar, which would have produced navigation instructions to the victim’s designated home location. The victim believes the cab driver witnessed the crime, but early police investigation turned up no cab companies revealing any observations of trouble related to the case.
The vehicle was equipped with OnStar, and possibly the emergency button was pressed repeatedly. OnStar notified police, and Illinois State Police began to track the vehicle on Interstate 90 as it headed toward the northwest suburbs.
About 4:15 a.m. Schaumburg police and Hoffman Estates police caught up with the vehicle at Woodfield Road and National Parkway, near the Hilton Garden. Paramedics were called for a female with head or facial injuries, and police began an investigation. Police are checking facts with OnStar, and other circumstances of the report.
The male subject is reported to be at large in the area — last seen in the area of Woodfield Road and National Parkway. He is described as 5′ 10″ to 6’0″ 200 LBS with short hair and wearing a dark baseball cap. Police searched the area intensely until about 7:30 a.m. — watching areas, such as LIFETIME FITNESS and other hotel parking lots nearby. At last two K-9 units were brought to the area. A small stream runs behind LIFETIME FITNESS and leads under Higgins Road to a medium-size wooded area, so there are many places to hide in the area, if an offender was at large in the area.
