Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:49 AM Thursday to a natural gas leak at Higgins Road and Martingale Road, Schaumburg, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that an excavation crew severed a two-inch gas main near the intersection. Workers on the scene reported hearing a hiss and smelling gas.
Winds were from the Southeast at 3 mph at 11:52 a.m. and some odor and low gas levels were detected in the area of Streets of Woodfield.
Some stores have zero readings, but some stores at the south end of Streets of Woodfield, including Carson’s and the theater had low levels of gas detected. Some evacuations are underway as a precaution.
Northbound Martingale Road at Higgins Road has been closed.
Nicor was on the scene by 12:15 p.m. and was beginning repairs.
