Due to lower Federal funding levels, the Village of Arlington Heights Health Services Unit is unable to host the February 18 Community Partnership Immunization Clinic that has provided vaccines to children under the age of 19 on a monthly basis since 1993.
A notice was recently given by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, indicating that funds are no longer available to sustain the vaccine for the under-insured population effective January 1, 2013. Unfortunately, 87 percent of the children seeking vaccine administration from the Community Partnership clinic are included in the under-insured category. For those under-insured, vaccines are available at many local pharmacies.
In response to the funding notification, Health Services has been in ongoing communication with the CDC and IDPH in an effort to obtain “deputization,” a designation that is required to allow the Community Partnership Immunization Clinic to serve the under-insured population. At this time, no decision has been made to grant this status to the Village’s Health Services Unit. The Village will continue efforts to re-establish this Clinic with the ability to serve all children who do not have coverage for immunizations. In the meantime, those who would typically receive immunizations through the Clinic can receive a vaccine from Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Centers or Certified Local Health Departments, which includes the Cook County Department of Public Health.
For those with no insurance, area clinics still in operation include the Cook County Department of Public Health in Rolling Meadows (847-818-2860), Hoffman Estates Village Hall (847- 781-4850), and Elk Grove Village Hall (847-357-4240). For those needing immunization summary records, please call Arlington Heights Health Services at 847-368-5760.
