House fire on Pickwick Road, just west of Arlington Heights Road.
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:29 PM Monday to a report of a house fire in the 0-99 block of Pickwick Road, just west of Arlington Heights Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a worker was unable to extinguish a fire at the house. Firefighters later learned that a worker was “sweating pipes” when he noticed a fire started.
A police officer responding to another call was nearby and diverted to the fire call. That police officer also has firefighting experience and was able to forward a good size-up of the conditions of the fire to responding firefighters.
Medium smoke was rushing out of the house in high winds, which proposed a high risk for the fire to extend throughout the house. Firefighters quickly put a hose line on the fire and ventilated the house. The fire was quickly extinguished, but some hot spots remained. A fence section had to be knocked out of the way to access the fire from one side of the house with hoses.
No injuries were reported. Two ambulances were on the scene because one of the paramedic crews was committed to firefighting operations.
